WHY DO WE DISCOUNT OUR MOTs?

VOSA the governing body, have recommended that the national rate for the MOT test should be £54.

Your biggest fear is that your car will fail the test when you believe that there is nothing wrong with it, and that we generate unnecessary work. Nothing could be further from the truth! Please read on and we will try to allay those fears.

We work for VOSA. We are accountable ultimately to VOSA, and as such we carry out internal quality control checks monthly on our operatives to ensure they work within the specified guidelines. These reports are recorded on the VOSA database.

VOSA at any time can visit our premises randomly and demand that a vehicle we have just tested is subjected to a retest by their inspectors. Both Express MOT and the tester would be in serious trouble if the vehicle had been passed or failed incorrectly. They also operate incognito visits with one of their own vehicles.

The national failure rate for all classes of vehicles is 35%, so if your car is regularly serviced and maintained you will not be part of this statistic.

Some companies offer a free courtesy car. This has to be purchase, taxed, insured, parked, cleaned and generates paperwork. Who pays?

Moving on to YOUR BIGGEST FEAR

We operate two MOT test lanes both of which are capable of testing a car every forty five minutes. They are called Automated Test Lanes, operated by one tester. The older systems require two operatives.

This state of the art equipment consists of a scissor lift incorporating independent shaker plates which assists in testing and identifying potential problems with the steering and suspension of your vehicle. The emission test is carried out using Bosch or Crypton machines which are calibrated regularly. This test is carried out after inserting a probe into the exhaust, which allows the machine to analyse the gases produced by the engine. This test cannot be influenced by the tester.

The brakes are tested by driving your car into the rolling road which is computerised (also calibrated regularly).  It weighs both axles before both the foot and handbrakes are applied. It measures the vehicles front brake imbalance and the rear brakes increase/decrease. This test also cannot be influenced by the tester.

If you are unfortunate enough to have a failure, we can give you an immediate competitive quote striving to complete the work quickly, or you may choose to do your own repairs.

Whilst we cannot guarantee your car will pass the MOT we do our utmost to help.

You can assist with this but it is not a pre-requirement:

Please ensure that the back seats are clear so that the tester has easy access to the seat belt anchor points.

Check that you have fluid in the windscreen washer bottle and that the washer jets are adjusted and not blocked.

Have a walk round the vehicle to check all the lights are operational.

Remove any sat-nav or mobile phone holders or stickers from the windscreen.

Remove anything hanging from the rear view mirror.

Ensure that all mirrors are free from cracks.

Make sure that the number plates are clean, undamaged, letters and numbers correctly spaced and the plate is secure.

Have a good look at your tyres. Look at the walls of the tyres to see that there are no bulges or cuts. The tread must be a minimum of 1.6mm of depth on the central 3/4 of the width of the tyre. Any cuts greater than 25mm or down to the canvas or cords will means a replacement tyre is required.

Check that the front windscreen wipers clear the screen and the rubbers are not split or cracked.

Are there any cracks or chips in the windscreen?
